Now, the problem here is that my sister wanted to play The Lion King, whilst I wanted to play Sonic 2. In hindsight then, breaking her drum kit wasn’t the best idea, as that meant she wanted to play The Lion King more and more. When I did get a moment however play sonic games on line, it was the game that helped birth in me a love for not only Sonic himself, but also videogames as a whole. Still, between this structure, its 3/4 camera perspective and its distinctly early-3D art style, there’s nothing else quite like Sonic 3D Blast out there.

What’s even more painful is Sonic Frontiers is far even from an AA game, even though it pretends to be much more than this. Despite all the fun, I can’t help but feel that Sonic would deserve more, just like his fans. That’s not to say that some won’t enjoy Sonic Frontiers, it’s just that the franchise doesn’t seem like it’s going into the right direction. Sonic Frontiers is an unsteady first run at the open-world genre for the blue blur but Sonic Team has crafted something endearing and immensely enjoyable all the same.

The intriguing premise unfortunately doesn’t stick the landing, especially since Infinite doesn’t feel like the right villain for the story, and his Replicas (duplicates of Sonic’s greatest past enemies) feel shoe-horned into the mix. But it’s refreshing to see the game borrow elements from other media. That said, Infinite is still a cool villain, and a great addition to Sonic’s rogues gallery as a reality-warping foe whose abilities contrast the physical and athletic abilities of Sonic.
